People planning to switch to a plant-based diet, are often concerned about their overall health, or just simply are wanting to try a different style of eating. There are some who will find this diet specifically difficult if they are accustomed to eating lots of animal protein.

Some may be very excited to try a plant-based diet, then give up before the week ends. There is nothing wrong with this scenario, because lessening or totally eliminating meat from your diet at once, can be pretty hard.

Starting a Plant-Based Diet

The key to begin this journey, is to not drastically change your dietary lifestyle. You don’t have to suddenly remove all meat from your diet all at once. 1. Week One – Vegetarian Meals 2-3 Days Only

By eating only two or three plant-based meals during your first week on this type of diet, you are less likely to put your body into “shock” by not consuming meat protein.

If you feel that you can add more plant-based foods days during this week, feel free to do so. Just remember, there is nothing wrong with starting this diet slowly. Everyone is different, but be careful not to send yourself up for failure before you had the chance to enjoy the benefits of a plant-based diet.

2. Replace Meat with Healthier Alternatives 

The trick here is to be creative. These foods are versatile, allowing you to create a number of amazing dishes. In fact, with thousands of recipes to choose from, I bet you will not miss your usual meat choice, once you perfect the plant-based recipes including some of the following:

  • Tofu
  • Jackfruit
  • Mushrooms
  • Lentils
  • Eggplants

3.  Remember Why you Started Changing your Lifestyle 

Eventually, you may or may not have the temptation to eat meat, especially if you dine out with friends. If you are tempted to consume meat, think of the reasons why you initially chose to start a plant-based diet.

4. Plant Your own Greens! 

Wouldn’t it be nice to cook something from your own garden? Create your vegetable garden and grow all your favorites. Gardening is an activity similar to exercising. You will also be saving on your grocery budget, as fresh vegetables can be costly.

Or perhaps you can sell organic vegetables and earn from it? That’s another reason to become an advocate of plant-based diets, right?

5. Look for Other People with the Same Lifestyle 

It can be more challenging for some people than others, to continue eating a plant-based diet, especially if the people around you are meat-eaters. I am not saying you should stop being friends, but instead, broaden your network and look for people who share your same interest. By doing so, you can appreciate your chosen lifestyle and receive support at the same time.

Your body’s hormones will change when you switch your diet to plant-based eating. At times, you may experience emotional changes. This is completely normal, but it is best to have an understanding of how to deal with this.

  • Headaches

Do not panic, because the above suggests that your body is already cleaning itself of toxins. Continue what you are doing, and you will eventually feel better.
